Also in the running are BlacKkKlansman, Bohemian rhapsody, crazy, rich Asians, the favorite, a green book, a quiet place, Roma, a star is born and a vice.
The animated film category of the PGA Awards looks even more superhero-friendly. Both Incredibles 2 and Spider-Man: Into the Spider Verse ,
Although the PGA Awards are not directly related to the Oscars themselves, they are considered an important predictor as the two awards have historically overlapped many nominees. Black Panther, who wins the favor of the PGA, is a promising sign of his prospects in the remainder of this year's prize race.
However, superhero movies tend to get better luck with the PGA than with the academy. Wonder Woman got a PGA nom last year, but was completely excluded from the Oscars. The same thing happened in 2017 in Deadpool. In 2009, the PGA-nominated film The Dark Knight made it to the Oscars and even got some statues – but could not break into the Best Picture race.
